Storyteller Mike Miller Voted 2003 Fall Arts Season "One To Watch" By the Charleston City Paper

September 18, 2002

Charleston, South Carolina-With the release of the Charleston City Paper's Fall Arts Season Issue, Storyteller Mike Miller was chosen as "One To Watch" as a literary arts spoken word artist.

Miller is a professional "Full Contact" Storyteller who recently was awarded the 2002 National Storyteller of the Year,
First Runner Up. Miller encourages the art of storytelling by offering free stories, storytelling articles and a free newsletter called "The Storyteller" at his web site: http://www.greatstoryteller.com.

"I’ve always thought that if you took the top five artists in each different artistic discipline in town and matched them up, writers would win hands down every time,” says local writer Jonathan Sanchez, referring to the sometimes uncelebrated caliber of writers in Charleston. “I mean you’ve got Robert Jordan doing the Sci-Fi thing, Pat Conroy, Bret Lott, Gary Smith ...” and the list goes on and on, from award-winning poets like Paul Allen to the 2002 Storyteller of the Year First Runner-Up Mike Miller."

"there are plenty of other budding writers in town, from poets to journalists to spoken word artists. And every year the literary community seems to become more and more cohesive, and writers have more options than ever for expressing their art, whether on stage at an open mic, at a writer’s workshop, or in literary magazines." Says journalist Lorne M. Chambers.

This Fall Arts Issue focuses on the people to watch this year. Visit www.charlestoncitypaper.com for a complete list
of artists honored.
